At a recent Council meeting, Cleveland Conservative Cllr John Popham revelaed to everyone present that had the Southall Gasworks site been completed, the Council would over the next 6 years receive an extra £30m in Government grant.
This money would come to the Council in the shape of the new homes bonus. For every new home built in the borough, the Council would receive from Central Government the same amount of council tax that the Council collects again.
The Southall Gasworks site has permission to build 3,400 new homes. Southall Cllrs are opposed to this development even though it would raise all this extra money and we have over 11,000 people on a waiting list for housing in the borough.
Whoever is Labour leader in Ealing depends on the Southall Cllrs for their position and the current leader of Ealing Council seems to have decided that his position as leader is more important than residents needs.
Hobbayne Cllr Colm Costello said. "users of front line services which Labour have cut will struggle to understand why the Council has turned down this extra money at a time when they say they have no money. The Labour group in Ealing would also struggle to explain this decision too. Cllr Bell needs to start putting residents needs before his own. This is simply not good enough". .
