The Ealing Conservative group in Ealing Council have discovered that a promise made by the leader of the Council, Cllr Bell, to volunteer for two hours in every week in our libraries has not just been broken, it;s been smashed to pieces.
Around Eighteen months ago, or 78 weeks if you prefer, the leader of the Council announced that he and his 39 Labour Cllr colleagues would volunteer for two hours every week in a library in the borough.
When asked how much time the leader of the Council had spent altogether over the last 78 weeks volunteering, the answer was not 156 hours, it was 1 hour.
Ten of his colleagues had also spent 1 hour each volunteering in our libraries over the last 78 weeks altogether, not 1 hour every week. Twenty nine Labour Cllrs did not spend anytime at all so the promise made by them was completely ignored by them.
Perivale Conservative Cllr, Justin Anderson said, "When Bell made this promise at full Council, we knew he wouldn't keep it, but he made it anyways. The leader of the Council, whether Conservative or in this case a Labour leader should not make such promises unless they mean to keep them. In this case they made no attempt at all to keep the promise".
