Dr Sahota, Ealing and Hillingdons new GLA representative is, as his title suggest a Doctor. He beat our candidate Richard Barnes in the recent GLA elections to become Ealing and Hillingdons GLA representative.
His entire campaign was around one single issue, saving the NHS, which by the way, the GLA has little or no influence over. He campaigned to save Ealing hospital from closure and reductions to other NHS services, due to what he called Tory cuts.
He knew full well that the hospital is not at risk of closure and the the Conservative led coalition is actually increasing spending on the NHS, not cutting it.
He and his colleagues are themselves cutting services to patients on June 21st, when they go on strike over their very generous pensions, which cost the taxpayer a small fortune.
Doctors on average earn over £100,000pa and can expect to retire at the age of 60 on a pension of at least £40,000 plus a tax free lump sum of around £100,000. Between two thirs and three quarters of the cost of these pensions is paid by taxpayers.
Most people won't resent the salary as Doctors have a huge amount of responsibility, but might resent the fact that the rest of us have to work until our late 60's paying taxes so that Dr Sahota can retire at 60 on a pesnion the rest of us can only dream of.
Why didn't Dr Sahota campaign against this strike. Is his pension more important to him than his constituents needs. Looks like it is.
