Last weeks emergency council meeting made the front page of the Gazette this week. See here. Residents turned up at the Town Hall steps to make their presence and unhappiness known to the Labour Council.
After they met at the Town Hall steps, they all trooped up into the public gallery to hear Labour, first of all blame the new contractor for all the problems with the rubbish and recycling service since April 1st.
Then they had to listen to the leader of the council tell them they need to get things into perspective. He went on to say that, yes there were problems in the first two weeks, but that you would struggle to find something wrong with the service now.
Residents and Conservative Cllrs could not believe what they were hearing. Residents know that there are still problems. Collections are still late on some roads, the recycling that they separate carefully is just thrown into the back of one lorry and mixed again. Some residents believe this is going to landfill.
Some roads are not swept at all and some are swept twice in one day, because they were swept before the rubbish was collected.
When roads are swept, the green bags that the rubbish is put in, can be left on the footpath for days on end. It is not residents that need to get things into perspective, Cllr Bell, it's you.
Residents of Ealing pay council tax for a service they are not getting. If this happened in the private sector, they would get compensation.
