Tonight, Ealing Labour, and more specifically, the Leader of the Council and his Cabinet member for the Environment, Cllr Mahfouz, have to explain their role in the disaster that is our rubbish collection service.
Residents in the borough had to put up with their rubbish and or recyclables going uncollected for weeks in some cases. Roads aren't being swept or in some cases are being swept twice in one day or before the rubbish is collected.
Residents also see the council just throwing the recyclables that they seperated carefully, into the back of one lorry where they get mixed up again.
Some residents suspect that it is going straight to landfill, so the damage to the councils reputation amongst residents is considerable.
Ealing Labour inherited from us a service that residents trusted and understood, and in the space of five weeks have turned the rubbish collection service into one that residents no longer trust to recycle what they have seperated, to sweep their road before the rubbish is collected or to even pick up the rubbish in the first place on time.
If you can come to the meeting, it is at 7pm tonight at the Town hall in Ealing. If you can't come, the Conservative group will hold the Labour administration to account on your behalf, as you would expect us to.
