Labour have ignored the 5,000 residents who signed our petition to stop the additional £40 charge for collectiing garden waste which comes into force from this April.
The new service will collect garden waste from residents (who opt in to the scheme and pay £40pa), every two weeks and not at all in Jamuary. They will be busy collecting Christmas trees then.
The council will spend £695,000 buying new wheelie bins and canvas sacks to replace the perfectly good pink canvas sacks that residents use now for their garden waste.
The council has 5,300 pink sacks in stock and they will be no use to anyone after the new service starts, and residents have around 50,000 of them.
So the total value of all the sacks that will be thrown out is £76,200. The council could easily have allowed residents to use the pink sacks for the new service, but instead wanted to spend £695,000 buying new wheelie bins and were happy to throw away £76,200 worth of perfectly good pink sacks.
Total amount of your money wasted on this single decision, £771,200. What a terrible waste at a time when Labour are cutting services to the most vulnerable in our community.
