In May of this year at an emergency Council meeting, that the Conservative group in Council forced because residents rubbish and recycling was lying all over the streets of Ealing for weeks on end, the leader of the Council said, "Numbers of missed collections for today were very low".
This statement was desigend to reassure residents that the worst of the poor performance was behind us all. Since that day, there have been almost 25,000 missed collections of rubbish and recycling.
This Labour Council have done their best to give the impression that the problems with the new contract were just in the first few weeks, and that all is well now. This could not be further from the truth.
In September of this year, the 6th month of the new contract, missed collections were still as high as 4,493, compared to 1,027 last year. The recycling rate has fallen from almost 45% last September to just above 41% of all rubbish recycled this year.
Local Hobbayne Cllr, Colm costello who attended the meeting where Cllrs where given an update on the latest performance of this contract said, " Ealing Labour have done their best to give the impression that all the problems with this service were in the first month only. What we heard tonight shows that even 7 months into the contract, there are still problems. Residents deserve better than this".
