Ealing Labour are introducing pay and display machines at local shop parades around the borough later this year. You will have to register to use the bays after the free parking period.
So if you want to stay longer than the free period, you will have to register your car and credit card or bank details with the contractor who runs the service for the council.
Then you ring up whenever you want to stay longer than the free period, and they take the money out of your account. This system is already in operation in the new temporary car park in Southall which was discussed at a scrutiny meeting in the council this week.
The deputy leader of the council revealed that the low usage of the new car park was probably down to the fact that the only way to pay to park in this new car park was over the phone and that this system was not easy to use.
He told a packed room that the leader of the council tried twice to register over the phone, and failed. So the system they are going to impose on the rest of us later this year, the Leader of the council can't work it.
The whole room burst out laughing.
